CA Lawmakers vote to create task force for Reparations

CALIFORNIA — Trump has a space force, so Democrats want a slave force. Lawmakers wasted no time and refused to let a tragedy go to waste, and California Democrats are using the unrest caused by George Floyd protests to push their racially focused reparations ideas. The California State Assembly voted to push forward AB-3121, which will advance any possibility of people receiving reparations for slavery. The vote was an overwhelming 56-5 in favor of it.

The bill will allow for a task force to be created whose main job is studying black reparations and trying to determine which families are eligible and how much reparations money they would receive.

“Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, a Democrat from San Diego who wrote the bill, said the study would reiterate California’s history of abetting slavery, even as it joined the union as a “free state” in 1850.

“The discriminatory practices of the past echo into the everyday lives of today’s Californians,” said Weber, who leads the Legislative Black Caucus.” (Desert Sun)

“This bill would establish the Task Force to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans … to, among other things, identify, compile, and synthesize the relevant corpus of evidentiary documentation of the institution of slavery that existed within the United States and the colonies,” the bill’s text reads.” (BPR)

Despite slavery ending about 150 years ago and no living person today has experienced slavery, nor has their grandparents, then there is little chance of people actually receiving the reparations as it would likely be voted down. People today have not suffered through slavery, so what compensation should they receive? Many might ask, how can the government pay for suffering to people who did not suffer?

The bill will give the task force a deadline of June 1, 2022 to provide its information, but Democrats might be focused on something else by then.
