McCarthy says expect vote on Wednesday to Oust Liz Cheney

Republicans who wish to oust anti-Trump Rep. Liz Cheney might get their way on Wednesday, April 11, according to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. He told House Republicans to expect a vote on Wednesday that, if successful, could strip Rep. Liz Cheney of her leadership position.

Cheney is constantly criticized for what she says about former President Donald Trump, scolding him for repeatedly suggesting there was voter fraud in 2020’s election against now President Joe Biden.

McCarthy penned a letter to the House Republicans explaining his thoughts on the matter, as stated on USA Today.

In a letter to Republican House members Monday, McCarthy wrote the party’s “driving focus would be taking back the House in 2022” and “internal conflicts need to be resolved so as to not detract from the efforts of our collective¬†team.”

“Having heard from so many of you in recent days, it’s clear that we need to make a change. As such, you should anticipate a vote on recalling the Conference Chair this Wednesday,” he continued.

The vote will take place behind closed doors.

Liz Cheney stands to lose her position as a conference chair, that USA Today says is the third most powerful GOP post to have.

Rep. Elise Stefanik is one of the favorites to replace an ousted Liz Cheney.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene weighed in on social media, sayingOn Wednesday, our GOP Conference will be voting to remove Liz Cheney from the chair. A vote some of us already took. Currently, we only have one member running for chair. I want a break before we vote on a replacement. Options are good and so are conservative votes.
