Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wanted to wish Willie Mays a happy 90th birthday, but she accidentally tweeted a photo of her and another black baseball player, Willie McCovey.
Pelosi then deleted the tweet and replaced it with a correct photo.
Pelosi’s now deleted message said “Happy 90th Birthday to an all-American icon, Willie Mays. A trailblazing, record-breaking baseball player, civil rights leader, and champion for youth sports and well-being, Willie Mays is a civic legend and national treasure” and that’s when she accidentally posted the photo of her and Willie McCovey, the Giants player who passed away in 2018 at the age of 80.

When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi posted her new message, it finally included a photograph of Willie Mays who turned 90.
The message stated, “Happy 90th Birthday to an all-American icon, Willie Mays. A trailblazing, record-breaking baseball player, civil rights leader, and champion for youth sports and well-being, Willie Mays is a civic legend and national treasure.”
Pelosi represents California since 1987 when she joined the Congress. That includes San Franciso. It should be noted that Willie McCovey and Willie Mays both played for the San Francisco Giants for a few years.
Did Nancy Pelosi offer an apology?
The Democrat’s office blamed the photo mix up on a staffer in a statement offered to KCBS radio.
That statement said, “A staffer inadvertently selected the wrong photo for the tweet. The photo we wanted to use was of the Speaker and Willie Mays at Willie McCovey’s August 2018 wedding. The quickly deleted photo was the wrong photo from the right wedding. We apologize for the error.”
